Welcome to the NH ARES SKYWARN® Resource Page.

New Hampshire is serviced by the National Weather Service office in Gray, ME. The office also covers Western Maine. The NWS office abbreviation for Gray, ME is GYX.

Each year GYX offers SKYWARN® spotter training classes. These classes are given online and usually last around an hour or so. The dates and times of the classes are shared with NH ARES members, once they are known. The classes which are offered are:

  • Summer Reporting
  • Winter Reporting
  • Advanced Reporting (once Summer & Winter have been taken)
  • Coastal Flood Reporting
  • Ice Jam Reporting

During severe weather events, NH ARES mobilizes to collect local meteorological data and storm damage reports, transmitting critical ground-level intelligence directly to the NWS Gray, ME forecast office.
