Think it’s been a calm hurricane season so far? Well, Greater Manchester ARES volunteers will be challenged, along with the ten other ARES groups in NH, to provide communications support in the aftermath of “Hurricane Dennis,” the scenario for this year’s Simulated Emergency Test (SET), which will take place on Saturday November 7th.

The SET is a training exercise held each fall in NH, during which voice and data messages are passed between field stations and local as well as state organizations such as the Red Cross and Emergency Operations Centers, either directly or through relay stations. These messages could be situation reports, resource requests, or welfare traffic.

The primary purpose of the annual SET is to evaluate strengths and weaknesses in emergency preparedness and amateur radio communications processes, with the primary objectives of proving and improving the readiness of ARES groups.
