New Hampshire Department of Safety (DOS), Division of Emergency Services and Communications (DESC)  receives final approval to establish a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with New Hampshire Amateur Radio Emergency Service (NH-ARES)

After many months of negotiations with the State of New Hampshire, I am pleased to announce that a formal MOU between DESC and NH-ARES was signed by the New Hampshire Executive Council on March 26, 2025.

This MOU serves to not only acknowledge the relevance of Amateur Radio in the State of New Hampshire’s disaster planning but also reconfirms the working relationship between the two organizations by formalizing our common goals.

The MOU provides agreement between DESC and NH-ARES that among other items, the DESC recognizes NH-ARES as the sole organization providing amateur radio communications support to the State.  DESC will also work to develop credentialing of NH-ARES members as well as offering agency related training and certification. This recognition did not come by accident, but due in large part of the amateur radio efforts, during the 2024 total eclipse and specifically the operational planning by Dave Colter, WA1ZCN.

Thank to all who made this MOU a reality.
